CAMPI FLEGREI - The Phlegrean fields

Another area of ancient fascination history are the Phlegrean Fields where myth and legend are mixed in a charming landscape. The Phlegrean fields
are interesting also for the volcanic activity - Solfatara. The Greek start to colonize this area in the first millenium B.C. and Cuma was the first Greek Colony in western area. The all Phlegrean Fields are huge volcanic area that extended from the gulf of Naples at Posillipo hills. The Phlegrean area was for the Roman Empire, very important commercial and military speaking, in particular the area of Puteoli (Pozzuoli) and Miseno where the Roman fleet was station till when the phenomena called bradyseism (to increase or to lower the level of the land) begin. This is the reason why we have so many interesting archeological site in this area. We can suggest you to tour the archeological park of Cuma, the castle of Baia, the temple of Serapide in Pozzuoli, the Flavian Amphitheatre also in Pozzuoli and many others. The volcanic nature of the zone is clear visible, and some craters have become important lakes, like the Averno lake, the place of "Tempio d' Apollo„ or the Fusaro Lake, the site of “Casino Reale„ a rococo’s style villa designed by the architect Luigi Vanvitelli for Ferdinando di Borbone for his hunting resting place. Tour the Phlegrean Fields is suggested also because is not to far from Naples.
